ISLAM NEWS ONLINE, TANJUNG ENIM - All day spending time sitting means that you rarely do physical activity. This has indeed become the lifestyle of modern people who work behind the desk on average, spending more than two hours sitting on the vehicle, and relaxing by watching television.

The results of research by David Alter and a team from the University Health Network, Canada, showed that people who sit too much every day are more at risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and shorter life. Even if they have exercised though.

"Our study found that increasing physical activity wasn't even enough to reduce the risk of disease," Alter said.

Alter saw 47 previous studies examining the relationship between sitting and death. The research has been published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. Researchers found that people who sit for a long time, as much as 24 percent more at risk of dying from health problems than those who are less seated.

"If you sit more than 8 hours per day, there are many negative effects on health," said lead researcher Aviroop Biswas from the University of Toronto.

The researchers also found that sitting too long can increase the risk of heart disease by 18 percent and 17 percent increase the risk of death from cancer. Besides that it is also very risky for type 2 diabetes.

The types of cancer that are suffered are usually cancers of the breast, colon, endometrium and ovarian cancer.

Unfortunately, exercise cannot eliminate the risk of the disease if it has been sitting for too long, but can only reduce the risk. So, often take a break from sitting and doing mild physical activities such as walking or stretching.
